The film is a remake of the 1983 Tamil hit Mundhanai Mudichu . It follows the story of Radha (Sridevi), a spirited village girl who falls for the new, widowed schoolteacher (Rajesh Khanna). When he rejects her, she publicly accuses him of an affair to force him into marriage, leading to a series of comedic and dramatic events as she tries to win his actual affection.
