The Babadook(2014) May 2026

Jennifer Kent's is a critically acclaimed Australian psychological horror film that transcends traditional monster tropes to explore the terrifying depths of maternal burnout and unprocessed trauma. Premise & Plot

The story follows Amelia (Essie Davis), a widowed mother struggling to raise her six-year-old son, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), six years after her husband's tragic death in a car accident on the day of Samuel's birth. Their lives are disrupted by the appearance of a sinister pop-up book, Mister Babadook , which introduces a shadowy entity that "infects" those who become aware of its existence. As Samuel's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, Amelia begins to spiral into a state of sleep-deprived paranoia and rage, questioning whether the monster is real or a manifestation of her own fracturing psyche.
